SUMMARY:Indigo Dyeing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:RARE OPPORTUNITY! Farmer Whitney is offering her indigo dyeing workshop for the first time since 2019. This long-awaited workshop will be a deep dive into tropical indigo dyeing traditions using a fermentation vat of Indigofera tinctora.  The morning will begin with an introduction to indigo and a discussion of its history as we prepare to make a vat together. Attendees will gain hands on experience making this vat and learn the key steps in preparing a vat so that they will have the necessary skills to make their own 5-gallon vat when they return home (all materials will be provided to take home as transporting a full vat isn’t so fun!).  Then we will use our existing 50 gallon vat (named Bertha) to dye 3 projects. The projects\, 2 on fabric and 1 on thread/yarn\, will explore different patterning traditions of Japan and Africa and again\, provide invaluable hands-on experience for having the best color-retention on different materials.  \nBeverages and light refreshments will be provided. Please bring your own lunch\, however.  \nThis workshop is held mostly outdoors and you will be surrounded by the hum of the farm\, from the ducks splashing on the stream to the sheep and goats saying hello to new visitors on a spring Sunday.

Whitney\, owner of Henny Penny Farm in Ridgefield\, will discuss ecological methods to grow food and raise livestock\, and how this method can be used as medicine for our planet and our bodies. \nWhitney will talk about the integral role that livestock can play in healing soils\, which aids in bringing back wildlife to our habitats — and how all of this is tied to producing better food. SUMMARY:Winter Collection Trunk Show
DESCRIPTION:Come visit the farm to get first pick from our Winter Collection! We have such a spectacular collection of woolen items (from scarves to rugs to bags\, and of course your favorite wool socks in all sizes again!). Our colors come from all natural dyes\, dyed here on the farm. We also received our latest sheepskins back from the tannery and have some gorgeous greys\, luscious whites and even a black!We also have your favorite soaps ready to soothe your winter skin (all facial cleansers\, loofah soaps\, piggie soaps and some new favorites!).  Drinks and light refreshments will be provided. And be sure to take a walk over to the upper lawn where you might be able to spy some of our young lambs! \nNOT LOCAL?? Not a problem! We will have a drop of online-exclusive items at 9am on Saturday February 24. You’ll find them in the ‘Winter Collection 2024’ category of our store. \n

SUMMARY:Lambing Tour on the Farm
DESCRIPTION: Come join us on morning rounds in our ‘maternity ward’ here during lambing season. You will need rubber boots to access the lamb pens. Because spaces are extremely limited we ask you to book only one lambing season tour per member family. \n**Please only purchase  1 ticket per family (2 parent members and up to 4 of your own children) but you must reserve a ticket so that we don’t overwhelm our new mamas!** \nThis is a Shepherd and Supporter Member only event.
